L&T Technology Services, Taiwan’s MStar to develop Advanced Digital Set-Top Box Solutions

AMSTERDAM/BENGALURU, September 14, 2018: L&T Technology Services (NSE: LTTS), a leading global pure-play engineering services company has partnered with Taiwan based MStar, a global leader in supplying application specific ICs (ASIC) for the consumer and image processing product markets, to provide a comprehensive suite of software for MStar’s System-on-a-Chip (SoC) targeted at Set-Top Boxes (STB).

This association will bring together LTTS’ expertise in designing digitally engineered suites of multiple system operators (MSO) and MStar’s top-rated STB chipset solutions. The offerings developed as a result of this collaboration will be designed to cater to the next generation application requirements from the end-users by augmenting and leveraging their experience through top-quality functionality.

LTTS will also support MStar for developing Android STB solutions for operators and MSOs by porting their chipsets to new OEMs catering to Android - GMS operating systems and above. The solutions developed conjointly will not only be enabled with new-digital media components with an integrated app-store but will also be combined with built-in analytics components and supported by industry leading OTT media players.

According to market research firm Technavio, the lucrative global set top box market is expected to generate a revenue of close to USD 25 billion by 2022. Another study by Research and Markets, states that the growth in set top box market is being driven by the desires of the consumers for big screen experiences. The projected growth also stems from opportunities arising in emerging markets, and addition of features such as HD functionality, security, and gateway abilities.
